I decided fairly early on in my career that I wanted to do emergency medicine. A lot of people come in with flu but if you’ve got things like asthma and diabetes or if you have problems with your heart, your liver, your kidneys then it’s going to be much harder for your body to fight off flu. The impact on you is big but the impact on your family can be huge. In the best cases people get better but it can be long periods until they’re back to their normal selves. The most important thing you can do is just get your vaccination. I think we’re all busy and it’s difficult to find the time but it’s the best chance you have of protecting yourself for the winter.
