Mental Illness in the Spotlight – This Is My Brave, Sedona Highlights

♫ You can be amazing you can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug, you can be the ♫ outcast, you can be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love or you can start speaking up ♫ nothing’s gonna hurt you the way that words do ♫ And they settle ‘neath your skin, kept it on the inside, no sunlight ♫ sometime the shadow wins ♫ but I wonder what would happen if you say what you wanna say, and let the words fall out ♫ honestly, I wanna see you be brave Why did I want to kill myself? I believed
I didn’t matter to anyone in the world My mind had convinced me that I was
useless. If I didn’t matter then there was no reason for me to be alive. I feel like I’ve waited forever to get this out of me and it was an opportunity
for me to finally let go to get some peace and to hopefully touch the life of
somebody else who may feel like you’re alone or that they they might give up. I
just wanted to share with somebody you know like it can get really bad you can
still like make it out of the darkness It’s a huge honor to be doing this I
have an opportunity to work with people playwrights who write stories but when I
get an opportunity to work with real people telling their real stories I
really understand the power of storytelling and this journey for me has
been incredible We realize the importance of stories and the importance of people sharing so that is a healing in itself to have people sharing their
stories When somebody stands up and speaks their truth and speaks from their heart and speaks of the healing and the growing that they’ve done we are
inspired. I am inspired If you are struggling reach out. Somewhere in the sea of darkness someone will reach back and hold you
tight be… be brave [applause]
