New Way to Reverse Diabetes?

New Way to Reverse Diabetes?

– Nearly 28 million
Americans have diabetes. Another 86 million are at
risk for developing it. Our next guest struggled for years, but could there be a way to
actually reverse diabetes? Have a look. – 15 years ago, I was diagnosed
with type two diabetes. My glucose was around 338 and my blood sugar was almost 12. I weighed almost 300 pounds and my doctor described me
as being morbidly obese. My legs would swell to the point where they would almost
seep like a blister. My hands would go to sleep and tingle. I was getting neuropathy in my feet. I was put on medication to help manage my diabetes, which consisted of three or
four pills in the morning, three or four pills in the evening, and shots before meals. I still wasn’t successful at having my blood sugar under control. I thought this was my life. Medication, struggling to
be healthy, being tired. I had to think. Is diabetes going to be
what’s going to kill me? Because I wasn’t smart enough to take care of my health. I heard of a clinical study called Virta that could possibly reverse my diabetes and that was the start of my journey. The first thing they tell you is we are not here to
have you lose weight, we’re here to control and
manage your blood sugar. The goal is to help
reduce your medication, maybe even get off of medication and put your concentration
into the nutrition. You’ve got your doctor, you’ve got your health coach, you are following a low-carb, high fat, moderate protein food list. If this could reverse my type two diabetes and I had the right help to make me understand
how to be successful, I was all in. – We’re joined now by
Virta founder Sami Inkinen along with Dr. Sarah
Hallberg and Jane Ann, who you just saw in that video. Jane Ann, I wanna ask you, how have you been doing? You look great. – I am doing absolutely fabulous. I definitely have better numbers, I started at 338 with my glucose. After a year, I’m at 83. – [Woman] That’s impressive. – Unbelievable. – And lost 80 pounds,
I mean those numbers. – Yeah, and I’ve lost 80 pounds. – Those numbers are off the charts. Impressive. – Diabetes is such a major problem, Sami, I’m curious what motivated you to create this paradigm and really focus on diabetes? – The reason I started Virta
to help millions of people who live with type two
diabetes reverse their disease, it’s very personal. So for decades, I thought
as long as you eat well and you exercise quite a bit, you will avoid type two diabetes. And I thought, well personally, I’m pretty good at those things because I had done Hawaii
Iron man seven times, and on top of that I won
the world championships in triathlon a couple of years ago. And then, to my huge surprise, I found out that I was deep into developing type two
diabetes and I was pre-diabetic, and I thought, this is crazy. This doesn’t make any sense. Am I supposed to exercise even more? I can’t. Am I supposed to eat even less? I can’t. So what now, am I supposed to go on meds? I was fortunate myself I had
access to these scientists and amazing clinicians
like Dr. Sarah Hallberg. But I thought, how do I help millions of other people? And given my tech and software
background, I thought, why don’t we create an online
diabetes reversal clinic and literally put these
doctors and scientists into the pockets of the patients
through their smartphones? So that was really the catalyst for Virta. – And so in real time, as I understand it, people are inputting their
blood glucose readings and getting feedback and interventions right away, correct? – Yes, so the key thing
in the Virta intervention is you literally have these
doctors and scientists in your pocket to support
you on a daily basis through your journey to
reverse type two diabetes.

  1. There is a way to cure and reverse diabetes. We've had the proof since the 1940s on eating a high carb low-fat plant-based diet but we simply ignore it

  2. Diabetes T1 or T2 is NOT curable. You can manage it by diet, exercise and possibly meds if needed. If it was curable don't you think everyone would be healed because it is not a nice disease. Those that toot their horn saying they have the cure are quacks. I am surprised you doctors didn't speak up!

  3. I wondered how long it would be before Virta and/or LCHF/keto were on this show. Thank you to all involved.

  4. High Fat Low Carb. Ditch the carbohydrates. Seriously. Google the minimum amount of carbohydrates required to survive. It's ZERO. (I didn't say glucose – yes there's a difference – required glucose is synthesized by the body as needed via gluconeogenesis)

I started at 211 mg/dl. 5 years ago. Now it's normal . Without meds just like this lady. Lost over 100 pounds within a year and it's stayed off. No medicine. No weird food restrictions other than ditching the carbs. Meat, eggs, cheeses, nuts, non starchy vegetables. Bloodwork normal despite nutjobs telling me my cholesterol would skyrocket and I'd drop dead in a month. Focused on avoiding the carbs and never calorie counted.

Diabetes is the inability to digest carbohydrates properly, Eliminate the carbs, eliminate the problem (there's a caveat – if you're Type 1 you will still need insulin – but insulin basal and bolus dosages will be MUCH less)

Asking people with weight problems to eat whole wheat bread, pasta rice and potatoes is like throwing cookies at a bear. You're only going to make it hungrier. Ditch the carbs.

  5. Its' all about sugar & refined carbs. Don't eat them. All metabolic problems will go away. Don't avoid dietary fat. Our ancestors ate fat and thrived. We are designed to process fats. They didn't have snack well fat free cookies. There! Simple advice that is free (vs paying for Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig).

  6. I can personally attest to the efficacy of a low carb diet. Two years ago, I ballooned to a weight 230 lbs, at a short height of 5'6". I was morbidly obese. I went on a low carb/high fat diet, and within 9 months I lost 65 lbs – going from 230 lbs to 165 lbs. Then after dealing with a plateau of 6 months, I did research on intermittent fasting (for information on this, look up the excellent presentations on YouTube by Dr. Jason Fung, a Canadian nephrologist who has reversed hundreds of patients' type 2 diabetes with a low carb diet and fasting). I started intermittent fasting in conjunction with my low carbhydrate diet, and now I am down to 140 lbs, for a total weight loss of 90 lbs. I am as slim as I was in high school and have superb blood markers.

  7. THE BIG DIABETES PROBLEM??????
This is how it can be cured by the real DR. Approved diebetes offer.

  8. Starch solution..potatoes and beans..with some nice colorful veggies and a few pieces of fruit everyday….yes i tried the keto thing..i just prefer sweet potatoes and peaches to steak and eggs…and as long as i stay oil free super low fat..all my numbers rock with no meds..

  9. Get 23andme report – many carry two alleles – one from each parent that’s automatically puts them at great risk in spite of diet. Beta cells die off and you can’t make more.

  10. I do the virta program. I have had T2 diabetes for 10 years, insulin dependent taking Janumet and Jardiance. I'm three weeks into the program and am off all three medications with normal blood sugars (80-120). I've struggled with this for years with an A1C over 14 at times. The approach the normal endocrinologists take just makes the disease progressive with eventual limb loss and death. This program reversed it all in three weeks and gave me a new way to live and eat. My fat is melting off and I have hope again that I won't die from this disease.

  11. Old news …. Look at YouTube videos from ‘Low Carb Down Under’ conferences. There are many presentations from leading researchers and doctors. Highly Recommended!

  12. SO WHAT DID HE DO..CAUSE HE SAID HE CANT EXERCISE MORE..HE SAID HE ATE WELL…CAN'T LOSE ANY MORE WEIGHT SO HOW DID HE GET IT AND REVERSE IT THEN

  13. Appreciate Video! Forgive me for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you researched – Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (Sure I saw it on Google)? It is a great one of a kind product for reversing diabetes without the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 after many years got amazing success with it.

  14. WHAT A NONSENSE,THIS PROGRAMS ARE SUPPORTED BY MEAT AND DAIRY INDUSTRIES DON' BELIEVE THEM.
IT IS TRUTH THAT CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD SUGAR, BUT THAT IS NOT THE CURE.
THIS DOCTORS SHOULD BE TAKEN OF THE AIR, RECOMMENDING CARCINOGENIC CRAP IN ALL THEIR PROGRAMS

  15. PEOPLE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT LOWERING YOUR BLOOD SUGAR IS NOT THE CURE.
THIS IS THE SAME AS A KETO DIET AND IS DANGEROUS
LOOK HOW DR ATKINS DIE, FROM HEART FAILURE AND WEIGHTING 265 POUNDS, AND HIS WIFE REFUSED TO DO AN AUTOPSY BECAUSE THE BUSINESS IS STILL GOING ON.
lOOK AT THE SPONSORS OF THIS RIDICULOUS TV SHOW AND USE YOUR COMMON SENSE.

  16. I regained my health by following this natural diet: => thebigdiabetes-lie. com <= (Google it)

my sugar levels dropped in 4 weeks.

  17. I was diagnosed type 2 about 2 weeks ago. I've had two different doctors try to put me on insulin. I refused. I'm still taking metformin though. In the two weeks since being diagnosed I have lost 42 lbs and my blood glucose has dropped from 450 to 100. All I did was change my diet to keto with 20g or less carbs and intermittent fasting. No bread, pasta, rice, or starchy veggies. The past couple of days I have even started cutting my metformin pills in half. And soon I plan to be off of it completely. My doctor argued with me saying I needed to eat 6 to 8 small meals throughout the day and include whole grain carbs along with taking metformin and insulin. Don't be afraid to question your doctor and to get multiple opinions. Too many people have greatly reduced or even reversed their type 2 diabetes through a keto or keto like diet with and without fasting. Take charge of your health.

  18. Another fantastic tool for this is the Freestyle Libre continuous glucose monitor. I've been using it for 2 weeks so far and I love it! So many insights for how food and exercise effect me. Instant motivation too. Awesome tech. Processed high carb foods are the worst for me. 10 minutes gentle walk or gentle exercise bike before or after meals with over 20g carbs or so works for me too, to lower the glucose peak and return to normal faster.

  19. For those who want to eat what you want and still reverse Type 2 Diabetes… eat one meal a day… no snacks.

  20. the best way to get down your sugar level is by intermittent fasting..and select your meal well..no easy way
