State health officials investigating tuberculosis case at Auburn University

DIAGNOSED WITH TUBERCULOSIS, AND
THIS IS THE THIRD STUDENT WITH
THIS DIAGNOSIS. GUY: THE DISEASE CAN BE DEADLY. AS WVTM 13’S ERIN KELLY REPORTS,
THIS CASE INVOLVES A STUDENT AT
AUBURN. ERIN: AUBURN SAYS THEY’RE TAKING
ALL PRECAUTIONS. THOSE IN CLOSE CONTACT WITH TH
STUDENT HAVE BEEN TESTED STUDENT
AND OTHERS WILL BE SCREENED NEXT

BLOOD DRAW FROM THE INDIVIDUALS
WHO HAVE BEEN EXPOSED. THOSE WHO ARE NO LONGER ON
CAMPUS, WE’LL CONTACT THEM
INDIVIDUALLY. ERIN: IN FEBRUARY, STATE HEALTH
OFFICIALS HAD A MEETING IN
CALHOUN COUNTY AFTER A STUDENT
GOT SICK WITH TB. THEN THERE WAS A CONFIRMED CASE
IN MARCH, A STUDENT AT GREEN
ACRES MIDDLE SCHOOL IN
BIRMINGHAM. STATE HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY
THEY’VE NOTIFIED THOSE WHO WERE
IN CONTACT WITH THE AUBURN
STUDENT. ABOUT 220 PEOPLE WILL BE TESTED. AT THIS TIME, IT DOES NOT LOOK
LIKE WE WILL HAVE TO TEST ANYONE
IN THE DORMITORIES AS WE DO NOT
BELIEVE THIS INDIVIDUAL LIVED ON
CAMPUS. ERIN: THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF
PUBLIC HEALTH SAYS THE THREE
