(upbeat music) – [Narrator] Diabetes is a
chronic disease which has today affected millions of
people across the world. World Diabetes Day is meant
to bring awareness to diabetes and is promoted worldwide, reaching over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries. This year’s campaign
focuses on the importance of affordable and equitable
access for all women to the essential diabetes medicines, self-management education and services. There are currently over 199 million women living with diabetes. As the ninth leading cause
of death in women globally, diabetes causes 2.1
million deaths each year. Two out of every five women with diabetes are of reproductive age. Approximately one in
seven births is affected by gestational diabetes, which can cause
pregnancy-related complications, including high blood pressure, large birth weight babies, and obstructed labor. Up to 70% of cases of type 2 diabetes could be prevented through the adoption of a healthy lifestyle. Today, one in eleven adults have diabetes. By 2040, this number is
projected to grow to one in ten. 46.5% of adults with
diabetes are undiagnosed. Knowing and understanding your risk of diabetes is important. The Diabetes Risk Test is a
